Frequently Asked Questions
Does acupuncture work for everyone?
Yes.
I tried acupuncture once a long time ago, and it didn’t work. Why not?
Acupuncture utilizes the resources that are available in your body on a given day, at a given moment. The success of a treatment also depends on your practitioner’s ability to see you clearly and diagnose the issue effectively. It is an art as much as a science. If you or someone you know had a less-than-exceptional experience with acupuncture in the past, try another practitioner. This medicine will not fail you.
What do the needles do?
Acupuncture taps into our bodies’ bioelectric circuitry, which is conducted along a series of interconnected channels or pathways. Acupuncture clears these pathways from obstructions, allowing us to harness our bodies’ innate resources and fullest potential for healing.
What does acupuncture feel like?
You may experience a variety of sensations such as heaviness, pulsation, pulling, or possibly a mild ache. The sensation can be local to a point, or it can radiate to other areas of the body. If there is discomfort, it generally resolves quickly.
How many treatments will I need?
Your treatment plan will be customized to your individual health concerns. Treatment effects are cumulative, so for best and lasting results, consistency is key.
What should I do to prepare for a session?
Please wear or bring loose, easily adjustable clothing to allow easy access to the limbs and torso. Most importantly, bring your sense of curiosity and willingness to transform.
What should I expect afterwards?
You will feel more relaxed, and will probably sleep exceptionally well following a treatment. If you came in for pain, you will leave with less pain. Other effects may be more subtle and will reveal themselves more clearly over the ensuing 24-48 hours. The healing process can be mysterious and unpredictable…that’s part of the magic!
